CALL FOR PAPERS
 
The Society for Animation Studies will hold its 20th annual conference at the Arts Institute at Bournemouth, 17-20 July 2008. Proposals are invited for individual papers and themed panels on topics related to the diverse field of Animation. Possible themes and topics might include, but are not limited to:
 

  • Teaching animation/animation pedagogy
  • TV animation – specific shows, TV as an institution, advertising, franchises etc
  • Philosophies and methodologies in animation research
  • The role of new technology in animation production
  • Relationships between animation and live action
  • Case studies of specific animators or national movements 
  • Animation and representation
  • Animation and audiences/spectatorship
  • Animation and sound/image relations
  • Animation and other media (comics, literature, film, videogames)

 
1. Interested individuals should submit an abstract of 250 words along with contact information as follows:
 

  • Presenter’s title & name
  • Institutional affiliation
  • Full postal address
  • Email address
  • Contact telephone number(s)

 
Deadline for individual submissions: 11 January 2008
 
2. Alternatively, panel proposals of 3/4 speakers each are also encouraged. One individual should act as the Chair of the panel and collate abstracts and contact information for all panel members before submission. Please include the following information:
 

  • Overall panel title/theme
  • Name and contact information for the panel Chair (clearly identified)
  • Titles and abstracts of each paper
  • Contact information for each presenter (mail, email, phone)

 
All presenters and panel members must be members of the Society for Animation Studies and must register for the Conference
