DEPARTMENT of ART: The Department of Art is part of the School of
Architecture and Allied Arts (Architecture, Arts and Administration,
Art History, Historic Preservation, Interior Architecture, Landscape
Architecture, and Planning, Public Policy and Management). The
Department has been dedicated to the rigorous exploration of visual
culture for over 80 years. As actively practicing artists, faculty
members offer students an introduction to the challenges, questions
and rewards of artistic practice. We believe in an integrated
approach that synthesizes the values of fine arts with possibilities
of new methods and practices offered by technological innovation and
broad interdisciplinary engagement. The department offers BA/BS, BFA,
and MFA degrees, with programs in Ceramics, Digital Arts, Fibers,
Metalsmithing and Jewelry, Painting, Photography, Printmaking,
Sculpture, and a new interdisciplinary major in Product Design, that
will be offered in both Eugene and Portland. Education in the fine
arts and design has always valued practice-centered research,
innovative methods of communication, and the importance of
experimentation in the dynamic construction of meaning. These
traditions of visual research within the arts are at the core of our
approach and are an important standpoint from which to explore and
engage the ever-changing and multifaceted territory of media culture.

DIGITAL ARTS PROGRAM: The Digital Arts Program is a collegial,
innovative, and established contemporary media arts program within
the Department of Art. BA, BS, and BFA degrees in Digital Arts are
currently offered through the Eugene campus. In 2008, with the
completion of a new facility, students will complete their Digital
Arts BFA year in Portland, which will provide them access to
professionals in animation, design, and other media arts through
internships, portfolio days, and guest critiques. A new degree option
in Product Design will also connect with the Digital Arts curriculum.
Contemporary media practice involves a rigorous investigation of and
engagement with continually evolving technologies. Our Digital Arts
program encourages students to combine an understanding of the
theoretical discourses of new media and visual arts with strong
technical sophistication, a rich sense of visual design, and an
ability to articulately express themselves as artists.

EUGENE/PORTLAND: Eugene, Oregon is located one hour from the Pacific
Ocean on the west and the Cascades to the east, with easy access to a
remarkable range of outdoor activities. Amenities of the city of
Eugene include a comprehensive network of bicycle paths, in-city
