In recognition of the many challenges facing SAS members during the Covid-19 pandemic, the SAS Board has created a new funding stream, to be administered in 2020, to support animation-related initiatives that might otherwise be at risk due to the impact of Covid-19 and the many diverse pressures and uncertainties that are caused by it.
There are no fixed criteria to determine what these initiatives might be, and we anticipate applications may range across practice, research, support for initiatives planned by members in precarious employment or postgraduate study, and requests to support the dissemination of work, for example.
Requests to cover travel expenses will not be funded. This restriction is guided by the World Health Organisation guidance, dated 30 July 2020, which “recommends that priority should be given to essential travel for emergencies, humanitarian actions (including emergency medical flights and medical evacuation), travel of essential personnel (including emergency responders and providers of public health technical support, critical personnel in transport sector such as seafarers and diplomatic officers), and repatriation.” In this context, the SAS Board wishes to ensure the safety of the membership by discouraging non-critical travel.
Funding will be distributed on a case-by-case basis, with a maximum of $300 per award, and with the requirement that funding must be spent by 31 December 2020.
Only current SAS Members are eligible to apply to this Stimulus Fund (SAS Board Members will not be eligible to apply).
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and processed as quickly as possible by the Board.
To apply, please send a one-page PDF with the following information to: president@animationstudies.org
1. Name
2. Affiliation/current employment status
3. Description of the assistance needed, with goals and objectives
4. How is this initiative at risk?
5. An itemised plan of how you will spend the money before 31 December 2020
A short report (300 words max) will be requested following the completion of activities/expenditure.
We look forward to receiving applications to this fund and to supporting the initiatives of the SAS through this difficult time.
